Fr. Franklin Philip D’ Souza has been appointed as the Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India’s (CBCI) Office for youth. He will replace Father Alwyn D’Souza on August 15.
Archbishop Leo Cornelio of Bhopal, SVD, who is also the Chairman of the Office for Youth, made the announcement in New Delhi on May 24.
“The Standing Committee of the CBCI at its Meeting held from May 4-6 was pleased to appoint Father Franklin Philip D’ Souza as the Secretary of the CBCI Office for Youth,” Archbishop Albert D’Souza of Agra, who is the CBCI General Secretary stated in his letter.
Father Franklin will be the fourth full-time Secretary of the CBCI office for youth which was initiated in the year 1986 as a follow-up of the International Year of Youth (IYY).
He was born on Oct 22, 1973 and ordained as a priest for the Shimoga diocese on May 10, 1999 by Bishop Bernard Moras of Belgaum.
He obtained his Bachelors from Bangalore University, Masters in History from Mysore University, Bachelor of Philosophy (B.Ph) and Master of Theology (M Th) from St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore. He is pursuing M.Sc. in Counselling.
The young priest served the Shimoga diocese from 1999 to 2005 in various capacities. At the same time, he was a staff member of St Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore.
In 2005, he was appointed as the Diocesan Youth Director for Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM). The same year, he was appointed as a Joint Secretary of the youth commission of Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishops’ Council (KRCBC).
He has been serving as a Karnataka Regional Youth Director of ICYM and the Youth Commission since 2008. He is a member of Prison Ministry of India (PMI).
